On October 2 – 6, 2017, the 68th session of the Executive Committee of the UN High Commissioner's for Refugees Programme is taking place in Geneva.

Participants of the session are discussing issues related to reviewing the current activities of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), revising the Biennial Program Budget for 2018 – 2019, as well as considering a wide range of problems in the sphere of protection of refugees' and asylum seekers' rights and the situation of displaced persons in different regions of the world. The delegates also keep in sight the process of developing a Global Compact on Refugees, which is called to enhance the international community response to large displacement of persons and humanitarian problems that arise because of it.

Addressing the participants of the session, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine in Geneva Yurii Klymenko informed about the humanitarian situation in our country, in particular with IDPs, as a result of the Russia's hybrid war. He called upon the Russian Federation to stop aggression and strictly implement the provisions of the Minsk agreements, that would stabilize the humanitarian situation. The Permanent Representative thanked the UNHCR and other international partners for the assistance provided to Ukraine in tackling existing humanitarian challenges and expressed hope for further active cooperation. He has also drawn attention to the unique experience gained by Ukraine in responding to the large internal displacement of persons against the backdrop of the hybrid external aggression that could be taken on board while elaborating the Global Compact on Refugees.
