Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on the situation in Venezuela with regard to election for the National Constituent Assembly
Ukraine is concerned about the escalation of political tension and violence in Venezuela amid the deepening of economic and food crisis.
We resolutely oppose the attempts by the Venezuelan government to usurp power, as well as to violate basic democratic rights and freedoms of its citizens, including the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.
It is not for the first time when Venezuela shows disrespect for democratic norms and principles of international law. In its time, Venezuela did not support Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity during the voting of the UN GA Resolutions, which were equally important for Ukraine and the whole civilized world.
Ukraine strongly supports the appeals and efforts of the global community aimed at resolution of the crisis in Venezuela, including by means of holding free and democratic elections.
