Pavlo Klimkin in Luxembourg: sectoral integration should be crucial element to Eastern Partnership

On 15 October 2018, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin took part in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) Foreign Ministers meeting in Luxembourg.
 
The meeting was chaired by High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and brought together EU foreign ministers, their counterparts from EaP countries and European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.
 
Foreign ministers focused on the progress of implementation of the 20 deliverables for 2020 and prospects for the EaP future, in particular with regards to the upcoming 10th anniversary of this EU foreign policy initiative.
 
Minister Pavlo Klimkin highlighted Ukraine’s efforts in fulfilling the EaP priorities, paying particular attention to the results of the fight against corruption and establishing of the depoliticized civil service as a solid foundation for the implementation of further reforms.
 
Pavlo Klimkin noted that deepening of sectoral integration between the EU and three associated partners aimed at their further sectoral integration with the EU should be a crucial element of the EaP initiative.
 
The Minister called on the EU to be ambitious, react to partners’ aspirations, present concrete initiatives with visible results for the society before the EaP 10th Anniversary and to start a discussion on EaP future.
 
The Head of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine also underscored the importance of strengthening the security dimension of the EaP and boosting of cooperation on countering hybrid- and cyber threats, in particular from Russia. It is of particular importance in the context of the upcoming elections in Ukraine and the EU.
 
On the sidelines of the EaP meeting, Pavlo Klimkin met with UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Jeremy Hunt, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó as well as with Secretary General of European External Action Service Helga Schmid.
