On May 14-15, First Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Ruslan Demchenko visited Astana, the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Within the framework of the visit, Ukraine-Kazakhstan political consultations on the level of Deputy Foreign Ministers were held. During the consultations the sides discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation. Particular attention was given to trade and economic cooperation issues, as well as to preparation for signing of bilateral agreements. The Plan of Consultations between Foreign Ministries of Ukraine and Kazakhstan for the period of 2013 – 2014 was signed as a result of the meeting.
Perspectives of Ukraine-Kazakhstan interparliamentary dialogue were in the focus of the meeting with Member of Mazhilis (lawer chamber) of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Head of the Parliamentary Group on Interparliamentary Relations with Ukraine S.Kanayev and Member of Mazhilis, Head of “Council of Ukrainians of Kazakhstan” Y.Timoshchenko.
During his stay in Astana Mr.Demchenko met with representatives of Ukrainian community and handed over a set of textbooks to teachers of the school-gymnasium № 47, where the Ukrainian language and literature are taught.
On the eve of the Memorial Day of the victims of political repressions, which will be commemorated in Ukraine on May 19, Ruslan Demchenko took part in a ceremony of laying flowers to a memorial stela for Ukrainian women – prisoners of the former Akmolinsk camp for family members of “motherland traitors” (“Alzhir”) and viewed an exposition of the Museum-memorial complex.
