Minister for Foreign Affairs Leonid Kozhara meets Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks

May Minister for Foreign Affairs Ukraine Leonid Kozhara has met Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks, who is in Ukraine on a working visit in connection with his participation in the international round table, organized in cooperation with the Office of the Commissioner.
The interlocutors discussed a wide range of topics related to ensuring human rights and fundamental freedoms both in Ukraine and in a global context. The Ukrainian side stressed the importance of the mandate of the Commissioner for Human Rights for the whole Europe and noted an active stance of Nils Muižnieks, who has visited about twenty Council of Europe’s Member States in the course of the last year.
The Head of the Ukrainian diplomacy confirmed the readiness of Ukraine for further cooperation with the Council of Europe Commissar on the issues of human rights within his mandate.
As Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Leonid Kozhara shared with Nils Muižnieks the priorities of the Ukrainian OSCE Chairmanship, including in the human dimension. The Ukrainian Minister drew attention of his counterpart to the International High-Level Conference Against Human Trafficking, to be held under the aegis of the Ukrainian OSCE Chairmanship on 10-11 June in Kyiv, with participation of Council of Europe’s experts.
A hope was expressed for a fruitful cooperation in the field of human rights in the framework of Ukraine’s participation in the Council of Europe as well as between the Council of Europe and the OSCE.
