Third Meeting of the Council of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Lithuania took place in the framework of a visit of Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine Linas Linkevičius.
The main topics of the bilateral agenda in political and economic areas as well as the practical measures for deepening the strategic partnership between the two states have been discussed during the meeting.
One of the key themes of the agenda of the Council’s meeting was the cooperation on European Integration issues. Minister Linkevičius confirmed the readiness of the official Vilnius to provide further support for Ukraine in the practical implementation of its Eurointegration course, taking into account, in particular, possibilities of the Lithuanian Presidency in the EU Council in the second half of 2013. It was agreed to intensify joint efforts in order to create all necessary preconditions for signing the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU at the Vilnius Summit of the Eastern Partnership in November 2013.
Lithuanian Side shared the priorities and goals of the Presidency of Ukraine in the OSCE in 2013, in particular, measures on settlement of the existing frozen conflicts as well as on the further deepening of cooperation in the sphere of international and regional security. The agreement to intensify practical cooperation between Ukraine and Lithuania in the framework of such leading international organizations as the UN and the Council of Europe as well as cooperation in the other multilateral formats has been reached during the negotiations.
In conclusion of the Counil’s meeting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius signed the relevant Joint Statement.
