While on a working visit to France, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara met with French Senators – Simon Sutour, Chairperson of the French Senate’s Committee for the European Affairs and Herve Maurey, President of Senate’s Inter-parliamentary Friendship group France-Ukraine.
The parties discussed the prospects of inter-parliamentary cooperation between France and Ukraine, Ukraine’s foreign policy priorities, current agenda and perspectives of the EU-Ukraine relations, notably the modalities of France’s support to the European aspirations of Ukraine, as well as current political situation in Ukraine and general scope of Ukrainian-French relations.
The Parties underlined the crucial role and great potential of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and France for the development of our bilateral relations, namely in political, economic, cultural and other fields.
French senators welcomed the course of structural reforms implemented by Ukraine on the path of its rapprochement with the EU and expressed their commitment to foster eventual cooperation in this area.
Respectively, Senator Sutour noted that Ukraine is an important partner for France, so that proceeding activity of his country would be aimed at giving maximum support to Ukraine in the light of its strivings towards the EU standards.
Senator Maurey, for his part, stressed that the Friendship Group France-Ukraine of French Senate is open to any proposals for the promotion of respective bilateral cooperation and is eager to involve all the relevant political forces of the French Parliament to this end. Senator confirmed his intentions to visit Ukraine at the nearest time in order to give a new impetus for a full-fledged inter-parliamentary interaction after the establishment of the new Group of friendship France-Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
