On 6 September 2013 the meeting of Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Andrii Olefirov with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Mr. Andrejs Pildegovičs was held. The current situation and prospects of bilateral relations of Ukraine and Latvia, implementation of the agreements reached on the results of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Latvia Mr. Andris Bērziņš to Ukraine on 14-15 March 2013, prospects of trade and economic cooperation, cooperation in the field of transport and transit were discussed.

Special attention was paid to the European integration of Ukraine and preparations for the signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU during the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit in November 2013. The Latvian Side reaffirmed the continual support of the Ukraine’s European aspirations, stressed the importance of signing the Association Agreement for ultimate success of the Eastern Partnership and briefed on preparations for the Latvian Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2015.

The Sides also discussed the issues of bilateral political dialogue and international issues of mutual interest.
