JOINT PRESS-RELEASE
after the meeting between Prime Minister of the
Republic of Moldova Vladimir Filat
and Head of Transnistria Yevgeny Shevchuk
(27 January 2012, Odessa)
On December 27, 2012 in Odessa, upon the initiative and mediation of the Ukrainian side, the first meeting of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Filat and Head of Transnistria Yevgeny Shevchuk took place.
In the course of the meeting a wide range of issues was discussed, including those concerning the Transnistrian settlement process. Within the context of the regular meeting of ‘the Permanent Council on political issues within the framework of negotiation process on the Transnistrian settlement’ in the “5+2” format, scheduled for the end of February 2012 in Dublin, Ireland, the participants confirmed their intentions to conduct negotiations in a constructive and consistent way.
Noting the necessity to improve economic conditions, the living standards and enhance cooperation, the participants agreed to activate the working groups’ activities on the confidence-building measures in accordance with the schedule agreed. The Parties agreed to continue efforts to resume operation of full-scale railway traffic on the Transnistrian part of the railroad, as well as communication channels, including stationary and mobile ones.
Given the current state of affairs in the Security Zone, the participants of the meeting underlined their readiness to seek solutions aimed at stabilizing of the situation.
The participants of the meeting also expressed their gratitude to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko for the assistance in organizing this meeting.
