On 20 January, 2012, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met with Ambassador Richard Morningstar, Special Envoy on Eurasian Energy Issues of the U.S. State Department. 

In the course of the meeting, the two sides discussed the current state and prospects for Ukrainian-American cooperation in the energy sphere. Special attention was paid to the issues of strengthening the energy security of Ukraine, perspectives of extracting a natural gas from unconventional sources and increasing the efficiency of using the energy sources in Ukraine.
