On March, 3 Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Deshchytsia met with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Astrid Thors, who is visiting Ukraine to study the current situation in our country, including the Crimea.
During the meeting the parties discussed the opportunities and tools of the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities to resolve the current situation in Ukraine, caused by the intervention of Russian troops to the territory of the Crimea. An important role of the HCNM in ensuring rights of national minorities in the OSCE participating States and conflict prevention was highlighted.
Acting Minister also requested the HCNM to provide expert assistance in development of new legislation in the area of rights of minorities and language policy.
Astrid Thors will visit the Crimea from 5 to 6 March 2014.
