Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko met with the newly elected leader of the Transnistrian region of Moldova Yevgeny Shevchuk.
During an informal meeting the issues related to Transnistrian conflict settlement, situation in the security zone, creation of Euroregion "Dnister", demarcation of the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border, as well as educational and other needs of the Ukrainian community in Transnistria were discussed. Minister Gryshchenko paid particular attention to the matters of protection of rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens in the region.
Both sides reaffirmed their readiness to continue negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement in the format "5+2" (Ukraine, Russia, the OSCE - mediators, EU and the U.S. - observers, Moldova and Transniestria - Parties to the conflict).
Minister Gryshchenko confirmed Ukrainian position in favor of a direct and close dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol, and expressed the readiness of Ukraine to facilitate this dialogue.
