Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriі Deshchytsia received Assistant Secretary-General, Head of the New York Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Ivan Šimonović.
Throughout the meeting, the Acting Minister expressed appreciation of the UN constant attention to the processes taking place in our country, and the active involvement of the World Organization mechanisms to crisis management, in particular, on Crimean peninsula. Andriі Deshchytsia informed Assistant Secretary-General on the latest developments in Ukraine, stressing on necessity of prevention of gross human rights violations which are caused by Russian aggression in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. He expressed hope that the presence of the UN, OSCE and other international organizations will contribute to de-escalation of tension in ARC.
