On 3 April Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Deshchytsia met with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Astrid Thors, who is on the visit to Ukraine to learn first-hand about the current situation in the country.
The issues of utilizing HCNM expertise and tools with regard to the situation in Ukraine caused by the actual annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea by the Russian Federation were discussed.
A.Deshchytsia commended the objectivity and impartiality demonstrated by the HCNM during her visit to Ukraine in early March 2014. As the result of that mission A.Thors confirmed that she found no evidence of violations or threats to the rights of Russian speakers in Crimea.
The Acting Minister confirmed the Ukrainian side’s interest in using HCNM expert assistance in preparation of new Ukrainian legislative acts on national minorities and language policy.
