Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya received United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights Ivan ŠIMONOVIĆ

Both sides discussed the activities of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission, which had been working in Ukraine since March, 15, 2014, on the invitation of the Ukrainian Government. Its purpose is to assess on the ground the situation on human rights and fundamental freedoms. Ivan Šimonović shared his impressions of his visit to regions, in particular, Donetsk and Odessa.

Sergiy Kyslytsia drew attention of UN Assistant Secretary-General to the recent cases of detention by the Russian security forces in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea temporary occupied by Russia of well-known Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov and journalist Osman Pashayev.

Ukrainian diplomat called upon the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to give a proper assessment of the facts of grave violations of human rights by Russia.
