On July 28th, while on a working trip to Washington D.C. the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin held meetings with the leadership of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations – Senators Robert Menendez and Bob Corker; Co-chairs of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus House Representatives Marcy Kaptur, Sander Levin and Jim Gerlach; and with Senator John McCain.
During the meetings the Head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry briefed his counterparts on the situation in Ukraine, and brought the Congressmen’ attention to the Ukrainian President P.Poroshenko’s peace plan and called for more decisive actions by the U.S. to counter the Russian aggression, including the implementation of sectoral sanctions. Pavlo Klimkin thanked for the United States’ assistance to Ukraine and expressed hope that it will further increase in order to properly conduct the reforms in our country, stabilize the national economy and strengthen the defensive capabilities.
The U.S. Congressmen condemned the Russian aggression, acknowledged their determination to provide continuous assistance to Ukraine in difficult times and expressed support for the Government of Ukraine’s efforts to develop a democratic, prosperous and united Ukraine.
