On 8 October Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine – Head of Staff Andrii Olefirov met with the delegation of pre-electoral mission of the Ad-hoc Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on observation of early parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
Andrii Olefirov informed the participants of the meeting about the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in the support of international observers as well as organization of the work of polling stations and ensuring free voting of Ukrainians abroad.
The decision to observe early parliamentary elections in Ukraine was taken by the Bureau of the Assembly on 2 September this year in response to the invitation of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov.
For this purpose the Ad-hoc Committee on observation of early parliamentary elections in Ukraine was created. It is chaired by Mr. Christopher Chope (United Kingdom/Group of European Democrats) and composed of 40 persons.
The pre-electoral mission, in which co-rapporteurs on Ukraine of the Monitoring Committee of the Assembly Ms. Mailis Reps and Ms.Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin take part, has been paying visit to Ukraine on 6-9 October. The aim of the visit is to assess the political situation in Ukraine prior to the elections, a state of readiness for the elections of relevant authorities and national political forces as well as to discuss the issues related to the compliance of the elections with the international standards.
