On 2 November 2011 Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine – Head of staff Mr. Pavlo Klimkin paid a working visit to Ireland.
In the frameworks of the visit Mr.P.Klimkin had meetings with Mr.D.Cooney, Secretary General of the DFA of Ireland and Mr. P.Breen TD, Chairman of the Joint Committee on foreign affairs and trade of the Parliament. Deputy Minister also made a presentation at the Institute of International and European Affairs on the issue: “Ukraine – EU: progress and perspectives” and headed the Ukrainian delegation at the political ministerial consultations. The day before Mr. Klimkin met the Minister of State on European Affairs Ms. Lucinda Creighton TD in the framework of the International cyber space conference in London.
The Parties confirmed an ascending dynamics of Ukraine-Ireland relations, intensification of a high level political dialogue, as well as essential increase of trade, active development of interparliamentary contacts.
The Irish Party reiterated its constant support for Ukraine’s European aspirations.
During the consultations the international security issues and bilateral cooperation in the international organisations were also discussed. Special attention was paid to interaction in the OSCE framework in the view of Irish and Ukrainian chairmanship in the Organization in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
