Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met with the delegation of the Presidential Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe headed by the President of the Assembly Anne Brasseur.
The parties focused on following issues: countering terrorism in the context of recent terroristic attacks in Paris and near Volnovakha in Donetsk region; continuation of Russian aggression against Ukraine, including the presence of Russian military units and weaponry in the territory of our state, Russian support of terrorist groups acting in east of Ukraine, failure of Russian Federation to implement Minsk agreements.
In this regard special emphasis was made on the absence of grounds to renew the rights of the Russian delegation in the PACE suspended by Assembly’s Resolution 1990 (adopted in April 2014).
The President of the PACE reassured in further support by the Assembly of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.
The attention of the PACE delegation was drawn to the necessity of exercising the available Assembly’s legal mechanisms to free Ukrainian pilot and MP Nadiia Savchenko and other Ukrainian citizens illegally detained in the territory of Russian Federation.
As concerns the humanitarian situation in Eastern Ukraine, the PACE delegation was informed about measures being taken by the Government of Ukraine in order to ensure social and economic needs of the internally displaced persons.
The parties underlined the necessity of further cooperation in the field of human rights and conducting reforms in Ukraine: constitutional reform, decentralization, electoral reform and fight against corruption.
