04 March 2015 12:57

On March 3 the High-Level Segment of the 28th session of the UN Human Rights Council, attended by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Sergiy Kyslytsya, continued its work.

That day S.Kyslytsya held a number of bilateral meetings, in particular with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein. They discussed the current state of human rights in Ukraine with a special focus on the root causes of its deterioration - the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and the subversive activities of this country in the Southeast of our state. Work of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission, deployed at the invitation of the Government of Ukraine, was noted positively. The Ukrainian side handed over to the UN High Commissioner a request for the extension of the Mission's mandate for the next 3-month period. A special emphasis during the meeting was made on Nadiya Savchenko’s case. In this regard Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein and his Office (OHCHR) were called on to facilitate her immediate release. Sergiy Kyslytsya extended on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin invtitation to the UN High Commissioner to visit Ukraine, which he accepted with gratitude.

Deputy Minister also met with Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights I.Simonovic and OHCHR leading experts in order to discuss the preparation of the National Human Rights Strategy and the corresponding National Action Plan, as well as the involvement of relevant international institutions in this process.

In addition, Sergiy Kyslytsya held working meetings with United States Assistant Secretary of State for International Organizations Sh.Crocker and Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland H.Mościcka-Dendys dedicated to the current issues of bilateral cooperation within the framework of the international organizations in the context of the support of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine in order to strengthen the international solidarity, as well as ensuring adequate protection of human rights on the backdrop of continuing aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
