On 19 March Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović.
The two sides discussed in details issues of utilizing OSCE institutions expertise and tools, in particular, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, in resolving the current situation in and around Ukraine, protecting rights of journalists and media freedom, in particular in the occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions which are under the control of the illegal separatist groups.
During the meeting were expressed concerns about the fact that the Russian state media are being widely used by the Russian Federation to disseminate propaganda and are engaged in information warfare on the territory of Ukraine. The issue of the intimidation of independent journalists in the temporally occupied Crimea was also discussed.
At the meeting Minister assured that the Government of Ukraine gives special importance to ensuring safety of journalists and media freedom in the country.
