Deputy Minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine Mr. Viktor Mayko paid a working visit to Oslo, Norway on October 20-21, 2010.
During his stay in Oslo Deputy Minister together with Head of Secretariat of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mr. Eduard Rizayev opened the Ukranian-Norwegian business forum, which took place at the Innovation Norway fund. The forum brought together representatives of ICC Ukraine, members of Norwegian and Ukrainian chamber of commerce and other Norwegian companies interested in cooperation with Ukraine. Participants discussed opportunities for launching joint projects first and foremost in the field of energy saving and renewable energy, fish farming and marine industry as well as information technologies.
Within the frames of his visit to Oslo Mr. V.Mayko had a meeting with State Secretary of the Ministry of foreign affairs of Norway Mr. Espen Barth Eide. During the meeting Deputy Minister briefed the Norwegian side on the recent steps to introduce social and economic as well as political reforms in Ukraine, informed about the internal situation on the eve of the local elections, and defined priorities of Ukraine’s foreign policy. The counterparts discussed possibilities of further development of bilateral trade and economic relations, diversification of foreign trade pattern, support of Norwegian projects in Ukraine focusing on energy saving and environment protection, efficient state and local government, social adaptation of former military personnel and other.
Deputy Minister V.Mayko had also a meeting with Director of Prime Minister’s Office of Norway Mr. I.Havnen. The meeting focused on Ukraine’s national projects and Norway’s possible contribution, strengthening of cooperation on combating climate change and protection of the environment, intensification of contacts in the field of education and research, as well as prospects for drafting bilateral agreements in the near future. The parties agreed to keep a fruitful mutual dialogue to further strengthen partner relations between two countries.
