In the framework of the visit to the EU institutions Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met with First Vice President of the European Commission for Better Regulation, Interinstitutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights Frans Timmermans.

The key attention was paid to visa liberalization issue. P,Klimkin informed his counterpart on the measures taken by Ukraine in the fight against corruption, especially in the context of the launch of new relevant authorities and expressed hope for the rapid introduction by the European Commission of the legislative proposal to abolish the visa regime for Ukrainian citizens to the EU Council and the European Parliament

F.Timmermans expressed full support for the introduction of a visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens in accordance with the European Commission recommendations from 18 December 2015 and the willingness of the European Commission to continue to assist Ukraine in continuation of reforms in the Home affairs and Justice.
