On March 2, 2016, in the framework of the High-Level Segment of the 31st session of the UN Human Rights Council, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein.
The parties discussed issues of cooperation between Ukraine and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), in particular with regard to the activities of the Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine and the situation in the occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea that requires a separate detailed OHCHR report. The adoption of National Human Rights Strategy and of corresponding Action Plan was highly evaluated. It was agreed that OHCHR should actively assist in their implementation. The necessity of engaging human rights special procedures, in particular on enforced disappearances, on the rights of indigenous people and on freedom of religion and belief, to monitoring human rights situation in Crimea, was especially noted.
Minister P.Klimkin renewed his invitation to the High Commissioner for Human Rights to visit Ukraine in the nearest future.
