МFA of Ukraine strongly condemns the airstrikes aimed at schools and hospitals in Deir al-Asafir in the suburb of Damascus that led to numerous civilian casualties. This is not only a violation of international law, but a flagrant violation of humanitarian law as well.

We emphasize that the Syrian regime and its allies must act in compliance with UNSC Resolution on cessation of hostilities and do not justify mass killing of Syrian civilians by so called “fight against terrorists”.

We require strict adherence to the Geneva Conventions. Ukraine as a member of the UN Security Council will do all its best to achieve genuine progress towards a political settlement of the Syrian conflict, according to the principles approved by the Security Council.
