In the framework of his working visit to Brussels, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and European Affairs of Belgium Didier Reynders.
The Ministers discussed prospects of developing political dialogue after the formation of the new Government of Belgium, and touched upon topical issues of bilateral cooperation and European integration of Ukraine.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine informed his Belgian colleague on the political and economic reforms implemented by the Ukrainian government. In particular, Minister Gryshchenko dwelled on the subject of preparation for the October parliamentary elections in Ukraine, which aims to ensure a free expression of popular will and transparency of the electoral process. Didier Reynders noted that Belgium and the EU are following the situation in Ukraine carefully, and that Belgium intends to send its observers to the elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine at the invitation of the Ukrainian government.
The sides also discussed prospects of developing bilateral economic cooperation and implementing the agreements reached at the second session of the Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Trade, Economic and Financial Cooperation on May 31 in Brussels.
The sides agreed to continue their bilateral dialogue and discuss the prospects of deepening Ukrainian-Belgian cooperation and the states’ co-action in the field of European integration.
