A solemn ceremony of presentation of the first Arabic edition of Taras Shevchenko’s book was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine

On July, 15 a solemn ceremony of presentation of the first Arabic edition of Taras Shevchenko’s book was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
The event was opened by the Head of Department for Worldwide Ukrainians and ethno-confessional dialogue of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Larysa Dir and Ambassador of the State of Kuwait in Ukraine Yousef Al-Qabandi. Among the participants of the ceremony there were members of the Kuwaiti parliamentary delegation, the diplomatic corps of the Arab States, representatives of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, Taras Shevchenko National Museum as well as leading national educational and research institutions – Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, A.Yu.Krymsky Institute of Oriental Studies and the Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Ukraine.
The book, entitled "Taras Shevchenko. Selected literary and artistic works", includes articles of Kuwaiti and Ukrainian literary scholars Dr. Ali Al-Enezi and Prof. H.F.Semeniuk regarding life and creative works of the Great Kobzar, selected poetry and art paintings, play "Nazar Stodolya", comments on historical and cultural realities.
The project, which idea originated in the context of celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Great Kobzar, was implemented by the Embassy of Ukraine in the State of Kuwait in May 2016 in cooperation and with the financial support of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters of the State of Kuwait.
The translation has been carried out by the team of representatives of both countries – Olena Homitska (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv), Dr. Fadel Al-Mowail (Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts of the State of Kuwait) and Volodymyr Martyniuk (MFA of Ukraine) who also compiled the book and coordinated the project.
The book will not only acquaint readership of the Arab world closer with an outstanding figure of the famous son of the Ukrainian people and its creative output, but also lay a solid foundation for further development of cultural cooperation with the Middle East and North Africa states, including the sphere of publishing.
