On 18 February 2017, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif in Munich in the framework of Munich Security Conference.

Ministers agreed to begin work on the "road map" of Ukrainian-Iranian relations, which forsees also the exchange of high level visits and strengthening of trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and Iran.

Considerable attention was paid on settling the conflict in Syria.
