Sergiy Kyslytsya and the representatives of the Ukrainian government agencies held a joint meeting with the Executive Director of the “UN Women”, United Nations Under-Secretary-General Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka

On June 9, 2017, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Sergiy Kyslytsya, Deputy Minister of Justice for European Integration Sergiy Petukhov, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Anastasia Deeva, Deputy Minister of Social Policy Natalia Fedorovych and representatives of the Ministry of Defence held a joint meeting with the Executive Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women “UN Women”, United Nations Under-Secretary-General Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to the development of further cooperation of Ukraine with the "UN Women" aimed at strengthening the continued presence of this agency in Ukraine. The special attention was paid to implementation of international assistance programs tasked with resolving the problems of women and children affected by the Russian aggression and illegal occupation of Autonomous Republic of Crimea and certain parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

The issues related to the protection and strengthening of women’s rights and opportunities, gender equality and respective measures in the national reform process were in a focus of the discussion. The parties also touched on the progress, opportunities and barriers in achieving gender equality and elimination of discrimination in Ukraine.

A special emphasis was made on the increase of the role of women’s issues in peacebuilding processes as well as on the importance of contribution of "UN Women" to the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 "Women, peace and security" and the relevant National Action Plan.

During the bilateral meeting between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergiy Kyslytsya and Executive Director of “UN Women” Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, the issues of international cooperation and role of the “UN Women” in the system of women’s rights protection in Ukraine were in a special focus.

The sides also paid special attention to the ratification of the Istanbul Convention, which aims to introduce the best international standards of preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. They also focused on the necessity of promotion of the #HeForShe campaign initiated by the “UN Women” and aimed at engagement of men and boys in the process of elimination of discrimination against women.

Also on the agenda was the issue of implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution "Women, peace and security".  The Ukrainian side reiterated that promotion of the agenda of “Women, Peace and Security” is among the priorities of Ukraine as a non-permanent member of the UN SC for the period of 2016-2017, and in this regard our state supports and promotes full implementation of the mentioned Resolution.
