Nuclear weapons test explosions represent a threat to international peace and security and undermine the non-proliferation regime. The fifth nuclear explosive test conducted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on September 9, 2016 is a blatant violation of its international obligations, including under relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Ukraine is deeply concerned over the continuous irresponsible actions of Pyongyang that have already seriously aggravated the security situation on the Korean Peninsula and beyond.

As a country that had voluntarily dismantled its own nuclear arsenal, Ukraine’s stance in this regard is very clear and unambiguous – we strongly condemn such unacceptable actions and reiterate that North Korea should ensure full adherence to the UN Security Council resolutions and immediately abandon all prohibited activities.
