On September 14, 2018, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasyl Bodnar and the Special Representative of Ukraine on Transdniestrian settlement Process Viktor Kryzhanivsky held a meeting with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transdniestrian Settlement Process Franco Frattini who visited Ukraine to attend the 15th Annual Meeting of Yalta European Strategy (YES). Newly appointed Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Claus Neukirch also attended the meeting.
Participants of the meeting discussed the current state and prospects of the Transdniestrian Settlement Process, as well as the regional security situation.
The Ukrainian side stressed that Ukraine's position on the Transdniestrian Settlement based on the principles of respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova.
In this regard, Ukraine supports the position of the Government of the Republic of Moldova on the need to implement of earlier reached agreements and commitments, including from the 1999 OSCE Istanbul Summit on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.
The participants of the meeting commended the beginning of the implementation of the Protocol decision «On participation of vehicles from Transdniestria in the international road traffic».
Franco Frattini also did not rule out the possibility of holding a 5+2 meeting before the annual OSCE Ministerial Council subject to Chisinau and Tiraspol achieve progress on issues related to telecommunications, criminal cases and the freedom of movement.
