First Ukraine-Japan Bilateral Consultations on Security Issues held in Tokyo

On October 12, the first Ukraine-Japan Bilateral Consultations on Security Issues were held in Tokyo.

The Ukrainian side was represented by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Mr. Vasyl Bodnar, and the Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for European Integration, Lieutenant General Anatolii Petrenko.

The Japanese Side was represented by the Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hideki Uyama and Director General for International Affairs of the Ministry of Defence of Japan, Mr. Hideo Suzuki.

The sides discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including those related to security and defence policies of of their countries, security situation in their respective regions, as well as bilateral cooperation.

It was agreed to continue such a useful consultations and to determine the date and venue of holding their next round through diplomatic channels.

During the visit, the Memorandum between the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defence of Japan on Cooperation and Exchanges in the field of Defense was signed.
