Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine welcomes the European Parliament Resolution “On the invasion of Ukraine by Russia” unanimously approved on March 13, 2014 in Strasbourg.
The content of the resolution as well as its title clearly indicate the united position of the international community in supporting Ukraine and its territorial integrity, as well as strongly condemn the act of aggression by the Russian Federation.
The European Parliament has clearly rejected arguments of the Russian side justifying its aggression: the Russian-speaking population in the Crimea has never been threatened nor will be threaten in the future. As stated in the resolution, these speculations are absolutely "out of touch with the realities".
An unbiased and impartial evaluation in the resolution gives clear description of the situation on the ground and clearly denies deceitful propaganda.
We pay particular attention to the recognition by the European Parliament of illegitimacy and unlawfulness of the so-called referendum scheduled in the Crimea for March 16, 2014.
Ukraine is open to a constructive dialogue with Russia and intends to resolve the situation around Crimea exclusively by political and diplomatic means without any alternative.
