On 20-23 January 2019, Mr. Sergiy Kyslytsya, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, led the Ukrainian delegation on a working visit to the People’s Republic of China to co-chair the Ukrainian-Chinese political consultations at the level of Vice-Ministers of Foreign Affairs, as well as to hold a number of official bilateral meetings.
On 22 January 2019, Mr. Kyslytsya with Mr. Zhang Hanhui, Assistant of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, co-chaired the Ukraine-China political consultations held in the Chinese Foreign Ministry. During the consultations, there was a discussion on a present-day state and priorities of development of the Ukraine-China strategic partnership, Ukraine’s participation in fulfillment of the Chinese initiative “One Belt, One road”, as well as on the two countries’ interaction at the level of Foreign Ministries etc. The delegations exchanged their views on a broad scope of global issues and the current situation in different regions of the world.
The Head of the Ukrainian delegation held also a meeting in the Chinese Foreign Ministry with the leadership of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences. At the meeting, the two Sides talked about their joint actions aimed at boosting the bilateral cooperation in international organizations on the basis of existing long-standing traditions of mutual support.
In the course of the visit, Deputy Foreign Minister Kyslystya also negotiated with Mr. Qian Hongshan, Vice Director (Minister) of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. The discussion was focused on the Ukraine – China relationship at current and next stages of their development, specifically the strengthening of the two countries’ inter-party and inter-parliamentary contacts. Addressed also were the course of reforms and the domestic political situation in Ukraine and China.
In accordance with the program of the visit, the high-ranking Ukrainian official in his capacity as Chair of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO also met with Mr. Tian Xuejun, Chair of the China National Commission for UNESCO and Deputy Minister of Education of China. The meeting touched upon the current issues of and prospects for the Ukraine- China interaction in UNESCO, as well as topical issues of their bilateral cooperation in the field of education.
At the bilateral consultations and all the meetings, both Sides have expressed their satisfaction with the present phase of and prospects for deepening the relations of strategic partnership between Ukraine and China. They have declared their mutual interest in comprehensive intensifying of the two countries’ cooperation, and have agreed to maintain further contacts.
