On November 21, 2019 a two-day meeting of Ukraine-U.S. Nonproliferation and Export Control Working Group (NPWG) started in Kyiv.
The NPWG was preceded by the meeting of Heads of Delegation – Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Yehor Bozhok with Deputy Assistant Secretary, U.S. Department of State, Ms. Ann K. Ganzer. During this meeting, the parties shared their views on the issues of the regional and international security architecture.
Mr. Yehor Bozhok, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, in his opening remarks underlined the strategic nature of Ukraine-U.S. bilateral relations and emphasized the importance of NPWG in the context of the maintenance of high-level cooperation in such important spheres as non-proliferation and export control.
Within the framework of the meeting, the parties discussed in detail the issues of multilateral regimes of non-proliferation, arms and export control, implementation of a number of priority projects in the area of strengthening the security sector of Ukraine in conditions of Russia’s ongoing military aggression, as well as cooperation within the framework of international organizations.
U.S. confirmed its support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the territory of Ukraine.
On November 22, 2019, during the second day of the meeting, the Delegations will visit the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone for a discussion on the issues related to prevention of the smuggling of Nuclear and Radioactive Materials , and on projects financed by the Department of Energy of the United States.
