On June 7 Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko received Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration of the Syrian Arab Republic Abdel Fatah Amura on a visit to Ukraine within the framework of the participation of the Syrian delegation in the third round of negotiations on concluding an agreement on free trade between Ukraine and Syria.
The parties discussed prospects for Ukrainian-Syrian cooperation in the political and economic spheres, opportunities for the enlargement of the treaty-legal basis of the relations, the state of realization of bilateral agreements reached during the visit by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to Ukraine in November 2010.
The parties also focused on the current situation in Syria. Abdel Fatah Amura briefed the Ukrainian Foreign Minister about political, social and economic measures by the Government of Syria with a view of stabilizing the situation in the country.
In his turn Kostyantyn Gryshchenko spoke in favor of the peaceful settlement of the situation in Syria through all possible political tools and expressed his hope that current reforms by the Syrian leadership would promote the normalization of the situation in the country
