The sides exchanged views on the priorities of domestic and foreign energy policy of Ukraine. In particular, an increase in the exploration and production of domestic energy resources, optimization of its import and enhancing of energy efficiency.
The Commissioner and the Minister discussed energy agenda of the EU-Ukraine Summit.
Mr. L.Kozhara and G.Oettinger touched upon the issue of deepening bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the energy sector under the Energy Community Treaty. The parties discussed the issue of energy supply to the EU and Ukraine, including the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, reverse gas supplies from EU member states to Ukraine and prospects of shale gas in Ukraine.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister assured the Commissioner that Ukraine will remain a reliable transit partner of Russian gas to EU member states.
Mr. Kozhara and G.Oettinger noted the successful cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the field of nuclear energy.
