On 15 June, following President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's instructions to deepen cooperation with Latin American countries, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Melnyk held political consultations with David Rutley, UK Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

Andrii Melnyk expressed his special gratitude to the British Government for its strong support to Ukraine in the political, military, financial and humanitarian spheres to stop Russia's armed aggression restore the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country. Deputy Minister stressed the importance of close contacts between President Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Sunak, as well as at the level of Foreign Ministers of both countries.

The main purpose of the consultations was to discuss possible areas of cooperation between Ukraine and the UK in the development of Kyiv's relations with Latin America and the Caribbean.

Andrii Melnyk briefed his British counterpart on the priorities of Ukraine's foreign policy towards Latin America and the Caribbean. He noted the interest of the Ukrainian leadership and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in deepening relations with this strategically important region and in promoting the involvement of these countries in the implementation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi's Peace formula.

The interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues, as well as the existing experience of cooperation with Latin American partners and exchanged views on potential areas of cooperation to strengthen relations with Latin America and the Caribbean and expand Ukraine's diplomatic presence in the region.

Parliamentary Under Secretary of State David Rutley pledged the UK's readiness to provide the necessary assistance to deepen Ukraine's contacts with Latin American countries, in particular the Commonwealth of Nations, including through the UK's diplomatic missions in the region.

The sides agreed to continue regular communication on Latin American issues.
