On 18 March, while on a visit to India, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha took part in a ministerial-level panel discussion «The Peace Tableau: Actions and Aspiration» at the international conference “The Raisina Dialogue 2025”.
The Foreign Minister of Ukraine informed the audience about the progress in the negotiations between the Ukrainian and American delegations, stressing that ‘Ukraine is the country that is most interested in achieving peace, just, lasting, comprehensive. We clearly show our readiness for a temporary ceasefire. But this is also a global test for Russia. It's time for it to show whether it wants peace.’
In this context, Andrii Sybiha quoted Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, the first woman to serve as President of the UN General Assembly: ‘The more we sweat in peace, the less blood we shed in war’.
The minister noted that after the talks between the Ukrainian and American delegations in Jeddah, Ukraine received a different dynamic of processes and new additional opportunities to end the war this year. He stressed that Ukraine is not an obstacle to peace.
‘Achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace is also a global interest,’ he added.
The head of Ukrainian diplomacy stressed that Ukraine has shown its full readiness, and the ball is now in Russia's court. ‘Let's see how the Russian side will react to the ceasefire. Ukraine supported the US proposal for a temporary ceasefire for 30 days. We expect the Russian side to unconditionally agree to this proposal.’
During the panel discussion, Andrii Sybiha also reminded the audience of the components of Ukraine's principled position: nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine and nothing about Europe without Europe; no compromises at the cost of Ukraine's territorial integrity or sovereignty; no restrictions on Ukraine's military potential; no third country has the right to block the choice of the Ukrainian people to participate in any alliances.
‘We are counting on the international community's support because it is about principles. It is about respect for the principle of territorial integrity and sovereignty, the UN Charter, and the restoration of a world order based on the rule of law,’ said Andrii Sybiha.
