Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha took part in the Warsaw Security Forum and emphasized the importance of Ukraine's soonest integration into the Euro-Atlantic community, taking into account our country's membership in the EU's long-term budget planning and extending an invitation to join NATO.
“Ukraine should be part of the Euro-Atlantic family. The Euro-Atlantic community also needs Ukraine in its fold to guarantee security and its own competitive advantage,” said Andrii Sybiha.
The Minister also expressed his gratitude to Poland and Polish society for their unprecedented support of Ukraine from the first moments of the full-scale Russian invasion.
“Today we celebrate the Day of Defenders, our brave men and women who have been fighting for 950 days. Soon it will be a thousand days of our resilience to full-scale Russian aggression. This was made possible, in part, thanks to your support. We are really grateful for it,” emphasized Andrii Sybiha.
The Minister recalled the daily Russian terror against Ukrainian cities and communities. He noted that Ukraine's security is important for the whole of Europe and Euro-Atlantic security.
The Foreign Minister of Ukraine emphasized the priority steps taken by the Allies to bring our country's victory closer and restore a comprehensive, just and lasting peace.
“We are now in a very important period of time. We need historic decisions. Strong responses to Russian aggression. A just, comprehensive and lasting peace for Ukraine. In this context, I would like to emphasize the importance of Ukraine's invitation to NATO,” he said.
The Foreign Minister noted that after the visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the United States and the work of his delegation at the UN General Assembly, this decision has become closer.
“We count on the support of our partners in extending an invitation to Ukraine to join NATO. We really need this historic decision now,” said Andrii Sybiha.
The Minister noted that strong decisions are needed today to guarantee a secure future.
“It is also necessary to lift all restrictions on Ukraine's use of long-range weapons against military targets in Russia. I also call on our partners to make another important decision. Start shooting down Russian missiles and drones in the sky over Ukraine. We need all these decisions to achieve the strategic goal that unites us all: a comprehensive, just and lasting peace for Ukraine. This is a goal that all of you need,” the Minister said.
The Foreign Minister called on the partners to perceive Ukraine as a member of the EU and NATO right now. In particular, to take into account the reality of our country's membership in the European Union in the next long-term budget of the EU, which should become an enlargement budget. He also informed the audience about Ukraine's priority military needs: strengthening air defense capabilities, providing additional artillery shells and drones.
