Andrii Sybiha held phone talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Giorgos Gerapetritis
16 August 2026 15:57

Acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha: "I spoke with my Greek colleague George Gerapetritis and thanked Greece for its solidarity with Ukraine and its people.

I briefed my colleague on the consequences of Russia’s constant attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. The growing scale of Russian missile and drone terror makes strengthening the protection of Ukraine’s skies an urgent priority.

I drew my colleague’s particular attention to security in the Black Sea. Russia’s continued attacks on Ukrainian ports, maritime infrastructure, and civilian vessels pose a direct threat to freedom of navigation, international trade, and global food security.

For Ukraine and Greece, two maritime nations, freedom of navigation is a matter of principle and security. Russia is trying to turn the Black Sea — a vital artery connecting countries, markets, and people — into another instrument of pressure and intimidation. We share an interest in keeping it open, secure, and free for maritime navigation.

We exchanged views on the current situation and key priorities of our bilateral cooperation and broader international engagement, and agreed to remain in close contact."
