On June 3, at the National Reserve “Saint Sophia Cathedral,” Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha, together with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, held a meeting with allies of the North Atlantic Alliance. The meeting took place immediately after the session of the Ukraine-NATO Council, chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Andrii Sybiha stressed that despite blackmail on the part of the aggressor state, the sides held productive talks.
“Putin tried to intimidate foreign diplomats and force them to leave Kyiv, but he failed. Instead, today we gathered the full composition of NATO’s North Atlantic Council in the capital of Ukraine — 32 senior diplomats led by the Secretary General. It was an intense but truly productive day. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Secretary General Rutte co-chaired the session of the NATO-Ukraine Council and held thorough bilateral talks.”
The head of the MFA outlined the priority issues raised during the meetings with partners.
“Today every meeting was primarily devoted to finding solutions to protect people’s lives from russian ballistic terror, including providing additional Patriot systems and PAC-3 missiles for them.”
The head of Ukraine’s foreign policy agency separately emphasized that work with allies on European missile defense continues. “Ukraine is ready to join this process, but we need joint efforts to accelerate results. For Europe this is a matter of strategic security,” he said.
The minister stressed that russian ballistic terror must be stopped and that this is a shared responsibility.
He also noted that the meetings discussed further contributions under the PURL program, which will allow Ukraine to continue holding its positions on the front.
Andrii Sybiha emphasized that relations between Ukraine and NATO are gaining new momentum ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara in July. “Today I presented our allies with concrete proposals that could become practical outcomes of the Ankara summit,” the minister said.
