On 11 July, 2024 First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha met with Director General of the National Committee of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) Maksym Dotsenko.
At the meeting, the Head of the URCS presented the main directions of the Society's current activities and informed about the amount of assistance provided by the Society. Thus, since 24 February 2022, URCS has been evacuating people from "hot spots" and has already provided support to more than 12.5 million people. More than 29,000 heating stoves, 4,000 electric heaters and 800 electric generators of various capacities have been delivered. With the assistance of the URCS, a shelter called "Unbreakable Mothers" was built for pregnant women and mothers with babies, and there was reconstructed a 7-storey UNBROKEN rehabilitation building, where more than 10,000 Ukrainians receive help every year. In this particular context, the effective work of the URCS in addressing the challenges posed by Russian aggression was noted in preventing a humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and providing assistance to the most vulnerable people.
Parties also discussed the development of special programmes for returning Ukrainians from abroad.
The First Deputy Minister expressed hope that URCS will strengthen its coordination with Ukraine's central and local authorities, as well as with international humanitarian organisations, to prevent gaps and duplication of functions in delivering humanitarian aid to the affected communities.
Particular attention was paid to the involvement of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society in the restoration of the National Children's Specialised Hospital "Okhmatdyt" and the Children's Centre for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
