On August 5, Ukraine commemorates victims of the Great Terror of 1937-1938 - one of the most severe crimes of the Soviet authorities against humanity.
85 years ago the The People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs (NKVD), which had the power of the interior ministry of the Soviet Union, enacted the Decision of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party “about the anti-Soviet elements”. In fact that launched mass extrajudicial executions of the Ukrainian elite with a potential to restore and develop Ukrainian statehood.
Now Russian authorities continue to pursue the policy of the Soviet regime, which they have elevated to the new level of cynicism and cruelty: they wage war against every Ukrainian regardless of age, gender, language or background. Russian troops target civilians with their endless missile attacks and keep on shooting the entire nation with heavy artillery. Olenivka, Vinnytsia, Kremenchuk, Kramatorsk, Bucha, Irpin, Borodyanka, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Mariupol - the names of these Ukrainian cities and towns are now known to the whole world because of the bloody crimes of the Russian authorities. Temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine suffer the most as the invaders have turned them into places of infringed freedom and mass terror. With the slightest resistance there, our citizens become victims of repression of the occupation regime.
The Great Terror of the 30’s of the last century have not destroyed the Ukrainian people, our spirit and courage. And now Ukraine will not surrender as well. The time has come to resolutely recognize that the Russian Federation, which has inherited the worst Stalinist traditions, is a terrorist state that is a threat to the entire world.
Today, Ukrainian forces are fighting to defeat the aggressor once and forever to prevent any further attempts by the Russian Federation to destroy the Ukrainian nation and statehood as well as to put an end to blackmailing the whole humanity. The world is showing unprecedented support for Ukraine, and together we are approaching our common goal. The victory will definitely be ours.
