On 17 March 2021, the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations held an event dedicated to the temporarily occupied Crimea.
The objective of the event was of propagandistic nature - to spread false narratives about the situation on the Crimean peninsula.
This technology is already known. Russian propagandists will triumphantly report that they allegedly managed to break through the "information blockade."
At the same time, the facts speak otherwise.
The results of the discussion reiterated Russia's continued isolation, the unity of the majority of UN Security Council members in support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, condemnation of the temporary occupation of Crimea, and human rights violations committed by the occupation administration on the peninsula.
The position expressed by our partners allowed Ukrainian citizens in Crimea to witness first-hand the unwavering and strong support of the UN Security Council members.
This is important because Crimea is in information isolation - Ukrainian Internet information sources are blocked, the frequencies of the Ukrainian TV and radio are illegally used by the Russian media. Russian media and officials do not provide information about the events on Crimea held by Ukraine and its foreign partners on the international platforms, or, if they do - they do so in a distorted form.
A clear example was the Arria-formula meeting on 12 March, characterised by unprecedented number of participants and the consolidated position, which was not duly covered by the Russian Foreign Ministry or the media.
We are grateful to the members of the UN Security Council who have recently confirmed their position on non-recognition of Russia's attempts to appropriate the Ukrainian Crimea.
By convening a propaganda event, Russia once again discredited itself.
