On 2 October 2021, Chargé d'Affaires, Senior Adviser of the Embassy of Georgia in Ukraine Mr. Sandro Topuria was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The diplomat informed about the circumstances of detention of Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili in Georgia, the articles of the Georgian Criminal Code incriminated to him.

The Ukrainian side stressed the need to fully respect the legal rights of Mikheil Saakashvili, and requested that the Ukrainian consul visit him for consular and legal assistance.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed Ukraine's firm position on non-interference in Georgia's internal affairs.
