The Conference of the heads of Ukraine’s diplomatic missions abroad: Victory is above all!
02 August 2023 20:00

On August 2 - 3, the annual Conference of the heads of Ukraine’s diplomatic missions abroad is held in the Zakarpattya region.

This year’s event takes place under the motto “Victory is above all!” with its key focus being on nearing Ukraine’s victory in countering Russia’s war of aggression.

“Ukraine’s diplomatic service is actively working on the preparations for the new political season in foreign capitals and headquarters of the international organizations. The President has set clear tasks for the heads of Ukraine’s diplomatic missions in foreign countries for the coming months: what specific decisions are needed on the Peace Formula, weapons, accession to the EU and NATO, security guarantees, support for the economy, assistance to our people. Being a coordinating authority in the foreign policy sphere, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively working on all the set tasks in order to strengthen international support and meet the needs of the military at the front. So, the motto chosen for the meeting is concise: “Victory is above all!” This is the main goal for the diplomats” stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.

In his speech to the ambassadors, the President of Ukraine outlined the priority tasks for repelling Russian aggression and promoting Ukraine's national interests for the next half of the year. The Head of State stressed that Ukraine’s diplomatic missions should work 24/7 to ensure concrete results.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the key areas are the mobilization of the international support in order to strengthen Ukraine’s military capabilities, promotion of Ukraine’s Peace Formula, increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, establishing the international security guarantees for Ukraine, meeting the needs of our country in the context of reconstruction and recovery, protecting the rights and interests of Ukrainians abroad.

During the Conference the heads of Ukraine’s diplomatic missions have received clear instructions from the leadership of the state to prepare for a number of upcoming important summits, ensure decisions on the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU and on the path to NATO membership.

In addition to the speeches by the Head of State and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Conference featured separate subject-specific sessions with the participation of the First Lady, the Head of the Office of the President and his deputies, the Minister of Defence, the Minister of Strategic Industries and other heads of security and defence agencies.

The Conference of Ambassadors is traditionally held in late December. However, this year, on the instructions of the President of Ukraine, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba convened the event in summer. This made it possible to hold a strategic session with Ukrainian ambassadors before the start of the political season in their countries of residence, to identify steps to implement the priority tasks of promoting Ukraine's interests and to work on their implementation with maximum efficiency.
