Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Melnyk, guided by the instructions of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on further deepening the relationships with countries of the Americas, held online meeting with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Ambassador Brian Nichols.
Andrii Melnyk expressed gratitude to the U.S. Administration for the tremendous support provided to Ukraine in the military, financial and humanitarian spheres aiming at stopping the Moscow’s armed invasion and liberating all temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. He emphasized that this unprecedented assistance from our American allies will go down in history.
The main goal of the online meeting was to elaborate common approaches to the cooperation of Ukraine and the United States in order to intensify ties with Latin America nations and the Caribbean.
In this regard, a frank exchange of opinions took place on possible areas of cooperation aiming at strengthening dialogue between both countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, in particular, within the context of counteracting the Russian aggression.
Andrii Melnyk familiarized his interlocutor with new approaches of Ukraine’s foreign policy in the Latin American region, the intention of Ukrainian President to reset our country’s relations with this strategically important region.
The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Brian Nichols assured that Washington, as our country’s key ally, would be ready to provide practical assistance in developing contacts between Ukraine and the Americas.
The parties agreed to continue maintaining communication on a regular basis.
Andrii Melnyk invited his American counterpart, Ambassador Brian Nichols, to visit Kyiv with a working visit.
