30 March 2020 15:08

On Mar. 30, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba of Ukraine held a telephone conversation with Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi of Indonesia.

“My first priority is to protect and help Ukrainian citizens who are currently staying in Indonesia. I hope I can count on your assistance in this matter”, Dmytro Kuleba said.

He thanked Indonesia for its decision not to sanction those Ukrainian citizens whose valid documents to stay in Indonesia have expired, but who cannot leave the country due to transport restrictions introduced in the wake of the pandemic.

The Minister stressed the importance of Indonesia for Ukraine as a partner in South-East Asia and a prominent player in the region. He also mentioned how growing trade between the two countries reached over US$1 bn last year. The ministers agreed to increase efforts to increase trade in the future.

Ukraine’s FM also told his Indonesian counterpart that Ukraine wishes to establish closer ties with countries who are members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Dmytro Kuleba invited the President of Indonesia and reiterated an invitation to the Indonesian FM to visit Ukraine at their convenience.
