Dmytro Kuleba Discusses with Ann Linde Aggravation of Security Situation by Russia
03 April 2021 22:30

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba had a telephone conversation with the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden Ann Linde.

The Minister informed his counterpart about Russia's systematic aggravation of the security situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions and in Crimea against the background of the Russian Federation's unwillingness to reaffirm its commitment to the ceasefire, and the increase of its military presence near Ukrainian border.

Dmytro Kuleba drew special attention to the growing intensity of Russian propaganda in recent weeks, including systematic attempts to spread misinformation about Ukraine's alleged preparations for military escalation.

The Foreign Minister of Ukraine assured the interlocutor that such accusations had nothing to do with reality, as Ukraine remains committed to political and diplomatic ways to resolve the conflict and deoccupy Ukrainian territories.

Ann Linde positively noted the balanced actions of Ukraine in the context of Russia's aggravation of the security situation.

The OSCE Chairman-in-Office gave assurances of the continued unwavering support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The parties discussed ways to resolve security and humanitarian issues in the area of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict.

Dmytro Kuleba stressed the critical importance of clear and strong diplomatic signals to demotivate Russia from any further destructive actions: “We must all remain vigilant and steadfast. The stronger the diplomatic signals now, the clearer it will be for Russia that it will have to pay a high price for any new round of escalation".

The Minister called on the OSCE to open additional advanced OSCE patrol bases along the uncontrolled section of the Ukrainian-Russian state border: “In the coming weeks, it is important to closely monitor every step of Russia. And if there is now a place where this attention is needed more than anywhere else, it is precisely the uncontrolled part of the border between Ukraine and Russia".

Finally, the interlocutors discussed the preparations for the inaugural summit of the Crimea Platform.
